The Biology Graduate Program was established in the late 1960s in the Faculty of Arts and Sciences as a branch of the Chemistry Department. In 1975, this Program was converted into the Department of Life Sciences, offering B.Sc as well as M.Sc and Ph.D. degrees, with the establishment of research laboratories and teaching laboratories.

Biology, known as life sciences and accepted as the basic science of the 21st century, is a science that gives more weight to practice than other basic disciplines. Biology examines the structures and functions of all organisms, their relationships with each other and their environment, thereby aiming to understand life.
